This blanket has been so enjoyable to make! It's been the perfect blanket to 'pick up, put down' as things have been so busy lately and crochet time has been a bit lacking......so easy to just pick this one up when I had a few spare minutes, join a square or two and then put it down until I get time again.
I used the corner to corner stitch to make the squares and joined them as I went along. It's a very easy thing to do so long as you always start the next square in the correct place. You can find my C2C JAYG video tutorial here
I used Stylecraft Batik for the coloured squares.......one ball each of rose, old gold, heather, sage, mint, pistachio and silver ( I had plenty left over too) and then I used two balls of Scheepjes Colour Crafter in Barneveld, which is the most gorgeous light cream ever, for the contrast squares. I find the best way to work out colour placement with something like this is to colour a picture, saves a lot of thinking time so you can get on with the crochet!
I made 121 squares made up of 4x4 C2C blocks each.
Those who have followed me a while will know I'm not one for overly fancy blanket borders. I tend to keep fancy edgings for plainer or one colour blankets as my personal opinion is that they can sometimes make it all a bit too fussy and that isn't my thing. I was really torn on this one though. I was going to just give it a nice crisp cream plain edging, maybe a scallop at most but I really felt it needed a bit more so I went for camel stitch stripes instead and Attic24's bobble shell edging. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out, although I'm still a little on the fence about the deep border and if I made the right decision! The blanket came out at a finished size of approx 80 x 80cm.
