Eostre (AKA The Mushy Pea One)

So many of you enjoyed watching my recent granny square blanket in my Daphne colour combo being created that I thought I would make a similar traditional style but larger granny square blanket so that I could compile a written document for you like I did with my granny square placement method for a baby size blanket. I get so many questions about colour placement and I do use particular methods depending on what I'm making to create a 'planned random' look

If you would like my written guide for the colour placement method I have used for this blanket you can find it in my Kofi shop here

Eostre Colour Placement Method

I've called this combo Eostre given the time of year. Eostre is the Germanic goddess of Spring and she is associated with the dawn of new life among other things. It's been lovely to see the night's drawing out and I'm really enjoying more daylight hours as for me proper daylight plays such a vital part in coming up with my colour combos and of course photography. Our garden is really starting to wake up now, our rose bushes have lots of new growth and the peonies are imminent! Spring is a really lovely season for so many reasons!

These are the yarn colours I am using for this one

Yarnsmiths Create DK

  • Rose Pink
  • Off White
  • Ginger
  • Rust
  • Country Green
  • Spearmint
  • Light Sage
  • Vintage Pink

Hayfield Bonus DK

  • Blonde
  • Oyster Pink

Stylecraft Special DK

  • Buttermilk
  • Mistletoe
  • Mushy Peas (joining colour only)

I’m making granny circles the same way I made them for my Delilah blanket. You can find a video for these here.

How to crochet my Delilah squares

Note that my circles are three rounds and I am going to join them whilst working the 4th round (the squaring off round) using continuous join as you go.

I made 132 circles, each one different!

I didn’t decide on the joining colour straight away. I had a couple on the shortlist but I wanted to make all my circles first and see how they looked all together before making my final decision to use this nice light green called Mushy Peas!

On a side note I just wanted to thank all those who have messaged me about or tagged me on socials regarding the continuous theft of my photos by scam crochet pages. This is something I’ve always experienced but it’s definitely got much, much more frequent over the last year and Facebook seems to be the worst platform for it. Unfortunately I have no way to stop it, Meta declines all my reports even when I have clear proof of ownership. If I’m honest this has really got me down lately, some days it has consumed me and impacted on my daily life as I’ve lost so much time filling reports out only for them to be declined. I’ve regularly started to question the future of posting on socials as social platforms, in particular Facebook, are becoming more and more toxic and a much less pleasant environment to operate in. It’s hard seeing my work relentlessly stolen and used as clickbait on fake pages to scam people.  It feels like an ever expanding ‘sea of fake’ out there and it concerns me that I might have to prove somehow that I’m real every time I post, I’ve already had people accusing my work as being AI. I’m not sure what the future of social media holds with this kind of tech/scam in play, it’s a fast evolving problem.

I can’t stop this horrible AI/IP theft culture but I can control how I react to it and how much time I give to it. It’s something I need to properly think about, some battles are just not worth pursuing.

Anyway enough doom and gloom, back to the blanket! Once I’d joined all my circles I did a three round granny stitch border , a round of htr and finished it all off with Attic24’s bobble shell edging in Off White in back loop.

I used less than 50g of each colour for my circles and just over 300g of Mushy Peas. My blanket came out approx 105cm x 115cm
