Honey

I love using lots of colour in my blankets but I also find it good practise to have a project on the go that is repetitive and uses minimal colours. No need to spend time deciding on what colour to use next which is ideal for when I'm feeling a bit tired but still want to keep my hands crafting. It also makes a project more easily portable as carrying around just a couple of colours is much easier than carrying around a whole rainbow!!

This African flower blanket uses just three colours

Cygnet DK

  • Chocolate (less than 100g)
  • Barley (probably around 200-300g)

Stylecraft Life DK

  • Natural Nepp (probably around 300g)

I'd been inspired by the colours and feel of a cross stitch design I'd been working on this last year. My Sunflower Cottage design is part of a four series set, it's packed with sunflower and bee themed motifs and I wanted to create a blanket that felt a bit like sunflowers but specifically using the African flower hexagon. A few people have mentioned that it reminds them of honeycomb too so Honey felt like a suitable name for this combo!

Cygnet DK in Barley is the best acrylic mustard shade on the market in my opinion, it is a PROPER mustard compared to other acrylic brands which are a bit too yellow for my liking. I used Stylecraft Life DK for the joining. It is an acrylic/wool mix and I chose the Natural Nepp shade as I love the rustic look of it with the flecks running through the yarn, it provides a lovely rustic texture too.

For the border I kept it very simple (partly because I didn’t want to buy more yarn!) with four rounds of double crochets finished off with Attic24’s bobble shell edging. It’s come out at around 100cm x 120cm so a good size lap blanket

I’m very fortunate to live out in the countryside so once finished I took this blanket out for a photoshoot over the fields. I love seeing crochet out in ‘the wild’ although I do feel a little self conscious whilst I’m trying to find the right spot to take the photo…..a passing dog walker did ask me if I was lost while I was wandering around the field 😂

I hope you have found this combo inspiring and I'd love to see how you use it! If you want you can use the hashtag #littledovecolourcombos on social media to share your creations
