I've been making a lot of blankets with squares lately, lots of joining and lots of end weaving....the more labour intensive type of crochet I guess! Sometimes it's nice to have a little break from that and the ripple is always the go to for me when I want something a bit more mindless and quick to work on and by working 3 rows of each colour there aren't too many ends to weave in.
My favourite ripple pattern is Attic24's neat ripple. Sometimes I like to change it up a bit like I have done here by working into the back loops which creates a more squishy texture.
Sticking with Yarnsmiths Create DK again.....I'm really enjoying working with this yarn! I used the following colours in my ripple blanket and have called this combo Lily!
- Off White
- Light Sage
- Antique Gold
- Plum Purple
- Vanilla Fudge
- Champagne
- Rose Pink
I've mentioned this before but I don't count the whole foundation chain, I just count the stitch multiple (pattern repeat) over and over until it is the width I want it. I did 8 pattern repeats here. I find it easier to keep count that way rather than trying to count a huge long foundation chain all at once!
The colour placement is random although I do have a bit of a method with random ripples which I will have to try and do a video for at some point. It basically involves pairing colours up and alternating their placement but I need to find a way to explain it in simple terms.........I will work on it! I did 20 stripes (60 rows) for this blanket which comes out at a nice baby size
You don't have to but I like the square off the top and bottom of my ripple blankets before I add a border. You can see how I do this here....
How to square off your neat ripple wavy edges
Simple border for this one, five rounds of double crochets (UK). I like my ripples to have clean, crisp lines to give them a modern look so I do tend to keep their borders very plain although I have been known to add a scalloped edge sometimes!
If you do happen to make a blanket inspired by mine it's really nice to get a mention for the inspiration, or perhaps you could even share my blog post.
I hope you have found this combo inspiring and I'd love to see how you use it! If you want you can use the hashtag #littledovecolourcombos on social media to share your creations
All my blog content is provided FREE however if you would like to support the time involved in producing the blog and appreciate the information I share you can do so by 'buying my a coffee' via my Kofi page. Alternatively you could share this blog post, one of my social media posts or perhaps one of my You Tube videos……a share is hugely helpful to me!
Thank you and happy crocheting
