A colour you won’t have seen very often in my past colour combos is purple! I’m not really sure why but it’s just not a colour I’m often drawn to, particularly blue tone purples. I find purple quite a ‘cold’ colour and I’m naturally drawn to warmer colours so that’s probably why I’ve neglected it.
It’s good to come out of the comfort zone though sometimes and I really wanted to challenge myself to come up with a combo that included blue tone purples.
Morgan has four shades of purple! I really wanted to embrace this colour family! I’ve added some greeny blues and a sage and bold olive green to work with them.
I chose the name Morgan as one of my followers on Instagram mentioned how ‘witchy’ the combo looked which is apt considering we are so close to Halloween! Morgan Le Fay is of course the witch/enchantress in Arthurian legend but Morgan is also a great unisex name and I think this combo lends itself well to any gender so it seemed a fitting choice!
I’m making a growing granny square, placing the colours in no particular order.
This combo is Yarnsmiths Create DK in the following shades
- Deep Purple
- Amethyst
- Lilac
- Pale Lilac
- Petrol
- Vintage Teal
- Light Sage
- Olive Green
I’ve added a mini granny border to my large central granny square
There is some maths to adding mini grannies around a large granny square but don’t worry it’s quite simple!
I’m adding three-round grannies around the edge so I made sure that the rounds in my large central granny square were a multiple of 3. This means that the three-round grannies will all fit equally around the edge. If I was adding two-round grannies I would make the rounds in the large central granny square a multiple of 2.

I've joined my mini grannies using continuous join as you go. You can find my video for this here
Continuously join as you go a mini granny square border

I added a simple scalloped edging to this blanket…..sometimes less is more! You can find my video for how I did this here

It was a really fun blanket to make and I've really enjoyed working with these purples that I so often avoid!

Alongside the granny square blanket I also made a V stitch blanket with the same combo. V stitch is brilliant, just a one row repeat, great texture and grows quickly! You can find my video for how I do this stitch here…(I may do it slightly different to others!)

I just made a baby sized V stitch blanket. I think the foundation chain would be around 101. I did 63 rows. If you find random stripes a challenge I've put a handy PDF in my KOFI shop listing my colour order. You can print it out and tick the rows off as you make them! It's FREE........donation is entirely optional
Morgan V Stitch Baby Blanket Colour Order Sheet
If you wanted to make a larger blanket increase the foundation chain in multiples of 3 (+2 for turning chain) until it's the width you want and you could repeat my colour order as many times as needed!

Once I’d given it a foundation round of dcs with deep purple I gave the blanket a moss stitch border……3 rounds deep purple, 1 round lilac and 2 rounds amethyst.
I don’t tend to keep track of how much yarn I’ve used but for these two blankets I used less than 100g of all the colours and broke into a second ball of Deep Purple. I still have well over 30g of each of the colours left.
All my blog content is provided FREE however if you would like to support the time involved in producing the blog and appreciate the information I share you can do so by 'buying me a coffee' via my Kofi page. Thank you and happy crocheting
