Noelle

It's got to that time of year when thoughts of Christmas start to slowly sneak in, the Christmas markets are popping up and many of us start crafting for Christmas (or maybe you're really organised and started your festive crafting back in the summer!)

I'm actually not a huge lover of Christmas....I like all the pretty decorations, I like the seasonal food, I like the 'sparkle' of it but I do struggle a bit with the actual day itself (and the few days around it) and I know for many of you Christmas can be a challenging time for all sorts of different reasons and if that's you I'm sending you my thoughts and understanding.

I do love a festive colour combo though and I thought it was about time I put one together again. I've gone with a more traditional green and red combo this time....last time I went a bit 'alternative' with Candy.

I'm working from my stash again so it's a bit of a mix of brands, all acrylic dk.

Scheepjes Colour Crafter

  • Assan
  • Ermelo

Hayfield Bonus

  • Forest Green (I think it's been discontinued, I've had it years! You could try King Cole Value DK in Forest instead)

Yarnsmiths Create

  • Crimson
  • Dusky Peach
  • Off white (joining colour)

Noelle seemed a lovely festive name for this combo!

I'm making classic granny squares......I'm aiming for a traditional look for this blanket. You can find out how I make a granny square here

I get so many questions about how to work out colour placement for granny square blankets so I've put together a digital download PDF guide explaining my method which you can find in my Kofi shop here

Colour Placement Method - Granny Square Edition

I also have a video on my You Tube channel which explains the exact method I use specifically for a baby sized blanket

I made 25 squares and joined them with continuous join as you go method

If you would like my exact colour placement plan for this blanket you can find it as a downloadable 2 page PDF file in my Kofi shop......it's available FREE! (donation is entirely optional)

Noelle Colour Placement Plan

Once all my squares were joined I continued with the joining colour and worked three rounds of granny stitch.

I really fancied giving this blanket a border that I’ve not done for a while so I had a look through all my past makes and came across this blanket I made back in 2016 (!) which had a border of little grannies and felt inspired!

I’m just placing the colours randomly here, taking care not to put same colours next to each other and at fairly equal intervals around the blanket. I joined the mini grannies with join as you go method.

Once all the mini grannies had been added all round the edge of the blanket I did three rounds with the joining colour to pull it all together......one round of double crochets, one round of half trebles and a third round of half trebles in back loops. My finished blanket ended up approx 85cm square.

I'm really pleased with how this one came out and I'm already planning more colour combos for this style!

All my blog content is provided FREE however if you would like to support the time involved in producing the blog and appreciate the information I share you can do so by 'buying me a coffee' via my Kofi page. Alternatively you could share this blog post, one of my social media posts or perhaps one of my You Tube videos……a share is hugely helpful to me! If you use my colour combo or are inspired to make a blanket just like this I'd love you to tag me on socials.....it's always nice to see your creations with my colour combos!

Thank you and happy crocheting

Faye :)
