If you've followed me for a while you'll know I'm quite fond of an Orla Kiely mug! This colour combo was very much inspired by my Orla obsession so naturally it has to be called Orla! I'm also rather fond of the African flower motif :)
For this African flower blanket I have used Scheepjes Colour Crafter in the following shades
- Barneveld (joining colour)
- Alphen
- Goes
- Vlissingen
- Coevorden
- Nijmegen
- Verviers
- Arnhem
and Paintbox DK in
- Vintage Pink
I worked on this blanket on and off for three years (these things can't be rushed!!) and didn't make any note of how much yarn I used as I often dip in and out of my stash rather than buy full balls for a specific project. I do know though that I used the best part of 100g for the border alone!
I made 143 full flowers and 14 half flowers for my blanket which turned out a good size throw perfect for snuggling under :)
I have uploaded several videos to accompany my blanket detailing:
- How to make an African flower
- How to join them using tight join as you go
- How to join them using basic join and you go
- How to make a half African flower
- How to straighten the top and bottom edges of the blanket
and you can find them all on my You Tube channel here....

For the border I did five rounds of double crochets (UK) and then finished off with Attic24's bobble shell edging
I hope you have found this colour combo inspiring and I'd love to see how you use it! If you want to you can use hashtag #littledovecolourcombos to share your creations on social media.
All my blog and video content is provided free however if you would like to support the time involved in producing the blog and the information I share you can do so by 'buying me a coffee'
Thank you and happy crocheting!
