I've been wanting to make the Weekender blanket (pattern by Cherry Heart designs) ever since I saw the one made by fellow crocheter, Sarah, many years ago. Sadly Sarah passed away in 2015, I think about her often especially this time of year and I will forever be inspired by her colourful crochet and grateful to have known and interacted with her albeit only through socials.......she was incredibly witty, a very clever knitter and crocheter and totally inspired me to learn sock knitting, thank you so much Sarah for sharing your talents.
The Weekender blanket is a great project if you need something to easily pick up and put down. I didn't use scraps this time but it is also perfect for a scrappy project. These are the colours I used
Scheepjes Colour Crafter
- Barneveld
- Goes
- Drachten
- Spa
- Coevorden
- Amersfoot
- Ameland
- Nijmegen
- Burum
Stylecraft Special DK
- Mushroom
The pattern includes instructions for making the edges of the blanket straight however I only used the pattern to make the full and half hexies. I then used my own method of straightening the bottom and top edges by using different height stitches as I wanted to use the same colour (Goes) as my border rather than make and join lots of different colour pieces to fill in the gaps as written in the pattern.
The pattern also includes a border but I chose not to use it and instead worked a few rounds of DC and a couple of rows of moss stitch (one in barneveld followed by Goes) followed by a final round of DC
I hope you have found this colour combo inspiring and I'd love to see how you use it! If you want you can use the hashtag #littledovecolourcombos on social media to share your creations
All my blog content is provided free however if you would like to support the time involved in producing the blog and appreciate the information I share you can do so by 'buying my a coffee'
Thank you and happy crocheting
Faye :)
