A few years ago I made this gingham style blanket in shades of yellow.........

Gingham is such a classic timeless fabric, it never goes out of fashion! There's several ways you can create the gingham look in crochet. Granny squares or solid granny squares using join as you go method, tapestry crochet or you could crochet join as you go C2C (corner to corner) squares like I have done here. What I also love about this pattern is that it only requires three colours so is a good portable project.
I thought it was about time I made another gingham blanket but this time in a different colour. My favourite colour is green so that was high on the list but I often use green in my crochet and I really fancied using a colour I didn't really use much.......cue red!
Red gingham reminds me of being at primary school! In England (and maybe in other parts of the UK too!) it is fairly commonplace for primary school uniform to include a gingham dress worn in the summer term that matches the school colour. My primary school colour was red and whenever I see red gingham it immediately takes me back to warm, sunny breaktimes sitting on the school field making daisy chains with my friends! My mum is a dressmaker so she made my gingham school dresses. I remember them having puff sleeves and a Peter Pan collar, I will have to see if a photo exists when I next visit!

Back to my red gingham blanket! I have used the following three yarn colours....
Yarnsmiths Create DK
- Claret Red
- Off White
Stylecraft Special DK
- Rhubarb

And a video for how I join them as I go here
I made 99 squares for a 9 x 11 format. I worked a similar border as I did for the yellow blanket, using both the reds and then finished with a scalloped edging in Off White. You can find my video for a very similar scalloped edging here

Quite a few people ask what I do with all the blankets I make. Some I keep, some I gift and some I sell. If you would like to see the blankets I have available for sale you can find them here
