My husband bought me the fabulous Scheepjes stonewashed/riverwashed colour pack for Christmas three years ago, it is amazing!
58 x 10g balls of all the colours in these ranges! It’s a lovely cotton/acrylic mix yarn, it’s lovely to crochet and knit with and the colours are beautiful! As I’ve mentioned before I’m not affiliated with any yarn brand and 99.9% of the yarn I use is bought and paid for by me so I’ll always give you my honest opinion on yarn as there’s no obligation for me to ‘influence’ you 😊 It is a bit more pricey than others but for that special project it’ll be worth it for the finish it gives.
I made circles with these cute little mini balls, squared them off and then I joined them with moonstone using continuous join as you go in a random order. I got mostly 4 circles out of each 10g ball, sometimes only 3 and I used a 3.5mm hook.

Scheepjes Colour Pack Circle Squares Video Tutorial
In my video I mention my hatred of magic circles so I thought I would elaborate a bit further here. Several years ago I made a very large blanket (double bed size!) for a customer using the magic circle technique for starting in the round.
It was the first time I'd used magic circles and I took great care as I always do to ensure they were done correctly and ends were woven in securely. It all went very well until my customer contacted me to say that one of the squares had come undone. I was mortified and obviously said I'd take the blanket back straight away to put it right. By the time I got the blanket back several more had come undone at the centre. It was really embarrassing and I tried my best to repair the bits that had come undone but ultimately I wasn't happy with the finish and so I remade the whole double bed size blanket again using my tried and tested reliable methods. It took me months and there were many tears shed at the time as I pride myself in my workmanship so it felt horrible to have had this happen. The very fact that there are tutorials online to help you repair a magic circle should be a warning sign not to use them in the first place....there are far easier and more long lasting secure ways to start in the round as shown in my video!
I made 200 squares using all but four of the mini 10g balls, the four I left out were too close to my joining colour and wouldn't give enough contrast. I originally planned to make a 14 x 14 blanket but once I started joining I decided on a 13x15 blanket with 195 of the squares. I've joined them using a continuous join as you go method, here's my video for this method

I absolutely love the joining process, I love seeing all the squares I've made come together.....it's so satisfying!
I've kept the border quite simple as there is already so much colour in the blanket I don't want to overdo it! I'm working on a video at the moment so that I can share with you how I did the border so don't forget to subscribe to my You Tube channel so that you know when it's live.

In total I used just short of 17 balls of moonstone for my blanket!
