The Rainbow Drops Blanket

The Rainbow Drops Blanket

As soon as I saw that Laurelin at Snufflebean Yarn had got this gorgeous colourway in I knew I just had to have some!!! It is Cygnet Kiddies Kaleidoscope in Rainbow Drops and it is very aptly named, just like those Rainbow Drops sweets! With it's long colour changes it crochets up a dream particularly when using the fantastic corner to corner stitch. I haven't used a specific pattern for this one, I've done it so much it's stuck in my brain haha but if you google C2C you'll come across lots of info and tutorials. Its a great one for beginners because...

The Aqua Sunburst Blanket

The Aqua Sunburst Blanket

When my customer said that she'd quite like a turquoise blanket as she didn't know if she was having a boy or a girl I was very excited as this meant that once again I would get to work with Cygnet's beautiful Aqua shade. I just love this particular shade of turquoise, it is so so nice! Initially my customer was swaying towards a daisy style blanket however as it needed to be gender neutral I suggested the sunburst square pattern as a good compromise. The main part is more circular so it wouldn't look quite so girly but still...

The Sampler Blanket

The Sampler Blanket

I was asked recently to make a sampler style blanket...ie a blanket using all different stitches :) I love a bit of variety in my work and although I know there are patterns for these types of blankets out there I decided to see what I could come up with just by putting random rows of different stitches together myself. It's been a great challenge because you have to be very careful of stitch count all the way through. Different stitches have different multiples so a little bit of maths is required to make sure the stitches fit and the...

The Summer Stripes Blanket

The Summer Stripes Blanket

Moss stitch! I love it.......it's quick, it's easy and it produces a lovely closed fabric with a beautiful drape. The thing I like most about it though is for me it shows crochet off in a more contemporary way. Don't get me wrong I love a granny square but sometimes I want the more modern look and moss stitch in lovely thick stripes just works! Before I go any further and so as to prevent any nitpicking I know it as moss stitch but it is also called linen stitch and granite stitch which I believe are all one and...

The Fruit Salad Blanket

The Fruit Salad Blanket

My crafty buddy Laurelin runs a lovely little independent yarn shop called Snufflebean Yarn and she stocks a fabulous range of Cygnet yarns. She recently got her hands on Cygnet's new release....a beautiful soft variegated double knit called Fairy Isle. I love all the colourways and couldn't wait to try some! I said before that variegated yarn is a funny animal....Fairy Isle as the name suggests is a Fair Isle effect yarn and you will get this effect if you knit with it. If you crochet with it on the other hand you will get an entirely different effect and...
