The Fruit Salad Blanket

The Fruit Salad Blanket

My crafty buddy Laurelin runs a lovely little independent yarn shop called Snufflebean Yarn and she stocks a fabulous range of Cygnet yarns. She recently got her hands on Cygnet's new release....a beautiful soft variegated double knit called Fairy Isle. I love all the colourways and couldn't wait to try some! I said before that variegated yarn is a funny animal....Fairy Isle as the name suggests is a Fair Isle effect yarn and you will get this effect if you knit with it. If you crochet with it on the other hand you will get an entirely different effect and...

The Harlequin Blanket

The Harlequin Blanket

I love adventurous customers........the ones who have a rough idea of what they want but are also open to a little persuasion! I've been dying to try out harlequin stitch for ages and I was so pleased that my customer was happy for me to indulge. She had already decided that she wanted orange and green with greys and white so we put together Stylecraft Special DK in Pistachio, spice, white, grey and silver. This combo is right up my street! I used the Greenway pattern for the harlequin stitch, it seems complex at first but it's very repetitive once...

The Broccoli Blanket

The Broccoli Blanket

I bought this beautiful pattern from The Felted Button's Etsy shop a couple of years ago but hadn't found the opportunity to use it until just recently. To be brought to life! As a designer of cross stitch patterns myself there is nothing more satisfying than seeing someone bring that design to life! So....let me tell you fellow crocheters, using a pattern makes you no...

Toy Safety

Toy Safety

Did you know that all stuffed, soft makes that would appeal to a child whether they are handmade or mass produced have to pass a rigorous list of safety tests before they can be sold to the general public? No? I didn't either, not at the start anyway. It was completely by accident that I stumbled across the EU Toy Safety Directive online around three years ago. I had no idea that to sell a stuffed, soft item in the shape of a cute animal for example, it was classed as a toy and had to meet certain safety criteria...

Long Time No Designs

Long Time No Designs

It's been almost two years since I last released a cross stitch design. Looking after my daughter and building my crochet business has taken over my life recently and designing had to take a bit of a back seat for a while. A couple of weeks ago though I was asked to work on a design for Cross Stitcher magazine and that together with a couple of my previous customers emailing me asking when my next design would be released spurred me into action to start designing again and here is the latest release....Summer Days!  I'm also enjoying working on...
